Soul Communication – Cassidy Sigouin

CassidyThe other day, I got to have a bit of a chat with Cassidy Sigouin, A North Bay gal in love with music. I’ve had the privilege of seeing her perform time and again, and she has never disappointed.

I’ve even managed to sneak a listen to some of her own work, which I can only hope for you all, will be available sometime in the not-so-distant future.

Here’s what we talked about:

SWEPT: So, when did you start singing?

CASSIDY: I’ve been singing since I was a little girl! I knew I had developed an immense passion for it when I was roughly 10 years old.

SWEPT: When did you start writing your own music?

CASSIDY: I started playing around with composing lyrics and song melodies from a very young age. Surprisingly though, I only wrote my first song when I was 18.

SWEPT: What got you into it? Who or what inspires you?

CASSIDY: My entire family is extremely musical. My father was a huge enabler for developing vocal techniques. Amy Lee, lead vocalist of Evanescence, has always been and STILL is my number 1 vocal inspiration. I would sit in my room and practice every single song from her albums. I fell in love with her voice the moment I heard it. There are times that people compare certain aspects of my voice to Amy’s and I honestly just die of excitement.

SWEPT: What are your current/future goals with your music?

CASSIDY: I’m a full time nursing student at the moment, therefore finding time to write music can be a little tough. My brother and I often play at a local bar in North Bay (Cecil’s Eatery And Beer Society)! We cover songs from many different artists and genres out there. We especially love to cover songs and make them our own; change the tone, rhythms and feel of the song.

SWEPT: What is the most important thing about your music to you?

CASSIDY: The most important thing about my music is allowing my soul to communicate. It is such an indescribable feeling to allow your heart and soul to open up and pour everything out into one song. I love the entire process of writing a song, especially lyric writing. I was always into poetry growing up as well, which helps facilitate that process for sure.

SWEPT: What is the most important thing about your music that you think others should know?

CASSIDY: My main focus in writing music would be to help people. If I could honestly just reach one single person with my music, it would be a huge victory for me. It is often said that you can learn through love or through pain. I like to take what I’ve learned in life and put it into song; tell my story. Maybe one day my story can help someone face his or her personal struggle(s) in life.

Short, but sharp, Cassidy clearly has a focus and understanding of her music and, in spite of her career pursuit, is still very deeply involved with music overall.

You can find an assortment of covers by Cassidy on her YouTube channel Nanami0406: from Jewel to Lara Fabian; from Nirvana to Leonard Cohen, and for you gamers and geeks, from Elfen Lied to Zelda. Something for everyone in this surprising powerhouse. You’ve heard it said that good things come in small packages, and it is no less true  for Miss Sigouin.

Et Cassidy , bravo et bonne chance . J’espère avoir plus de votre propre musique bientôt.
