Homesick? Sick of Home?

soft pale skin

tan lines on summer feet

chipped nail polish and frayed cuticles

hair like a halo of blood

eyes that have wept too much

and valued too little

hard resentful liver

carrying the load

unwavering even so

masochist mouth

capable of sweet song

plump pink lips

kissing too heedlessly

impulsive tongue

a wrecking ball with words

with a palate for punishing potions

brain built of writers blocks

held together by shame and regret

body shielded with scars

a map stretching from ankles to hips

to wary open arms

heart like beating thunder

an oxymoron

the shelter and the storm
