Forgotten (PED #25)

An old love note
crumpled and well read
buried in a stack of old papers
in a weathered shoebox
at the bottom of a dark, lonely closet.

A lost love
gone many moons ago
couldn’t be let go,
halting the rest of existence.

Now, all it does
is collect dust,
in the back of a tiny space
because true love
has gotten in the way,
making sure the old, crumpled note
never gets read again.
